 When country music artists begin the long journey to the shining lights, they often have a handful of dreams in mind. They want to sing and make music for sold out venues, and they want to land in the Country Music Hall of Fame. While this is a dream that has been fulfilled by many, how many will really break through?
The truth is that no one knows for sure. When we turn to the Country Music Hall of Fame, however, we get a few hints as to who could be chosen for induction in the future. The Country Music Hall of Fame was created in 1961, and today, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, is the largest museum in the entire world honoring great country music. The museum happens to have one of the world’s largest collections of music. For people visiting Nashville, the Country Music Hall of Fame is a can’t-miss stop, but for singer-songwriters dreaming of taking the stage, the museum is a place to draw inspiration from some of the country music industry’s most influential power players. Within its walls are 500,000 autographs; 200,000 sound recordings; and historic items such as Bill Monroe’s mandolin, Johnny Cash’s black suit from The Johnny Cash Show, the dress Carrie Underwood wore when she won American Idol, and a cocktail dress belonging to Patsy Cline. Since the Country Music Hall of Fame debuted some 50+ years ago, a total of 136 iconic country music singer-songwriters and influencers have been inducted. Artists in three categories are inducted: modern era (eligible for induction 20 years after reaching national prominence); veterans era (eligible 40 years after reaching national prominence), and non-performer, songwriter, recording and/or touring musician. Iconic bands like Alabama are included in this list, as well as artists that will never be forgotten - Garth Brooks, Glen Campbell, Bill Carlisle, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Jimmie Davis, Hank Williams, Tammy Wynette, and a long list of others. So many country music artists dream of making it on this list, but how many really will? Well, that’s hard to say. What we do know is that just three artists are announced every year, but each of the inductees have amazing stories to tell. Most often, inductees started out as many indie country music artists out there today. The only difference is that they’ve got a whole lot of work and experience under their belts. With perseverance comes rewards, and if you’re a country music artist who’s just getting started, don’t be discouraged by all the noise out there. If you keep making great music and stay true to your image, you will quite likely see results. Will you make it to the big leagues?
